Scope note: Acumulación excesiva de líquido cefalorraquídeo en el interior del cráneo que puede asociarse con dilatación de los ventrículos cerebrales, HIPERTENSIÓN INTRACRANEAL, CEFALEA, letargia, INCONTINENCIA URINARIA y ATAXIA (y en lactantes macrocefalia). Esta afección puede originarse por obstrucción de los conductos del líquido cefalorraquídeo debido a anomalías neurológicas, HEMORRAGIAS INTRACRANEALES, INFECCIONES DEL SISTEMA NERVIOSO CENTRAL, NEOPLASIAS CEREBRALES, TRAUMATISMO CRANEOENCEFÁLICO y otras afecciones. Un defecto en la reabsorción del líquido cefalorraquídeo por las vellosidades aracnoideas produce una forma comunicante de hidrocefalia. La hidrocefalia ex-vacuo se refiere a la dilatación ventricular que se produce como resultado de la pérdida de la sustancia cerebral por un INFARTO CEREBRAL y por otras afecciones.
