Scope note: Familia de secuencias de ADN asociadas a retrovirus (myc) originalmente aisladas del virus de la mielocitomatosis aviar. El proto-oncogén myc (c-myc) codifica una proteína implicada en el metabolismo de los ácidos nucleicos y en la mediación de la respuesta celular a factores de crecimiento. El truncamiento del primer exón que parece regular la expresión de c-myc es crucial para la tumorigenicidad. El gen myc se localiza en 8q24, en el brazo largo del cromosoma 8.
