Scope note: Afección neurodegenerativa caracterizada por desmielinización o necrosis del CUERPO CALLOSO. Los síntomas comprenden DEPRESIÓN, TRASTORNOS PARANOIDES, DEMENCIA, CONVULSIONES y ATAXIA que pueden progresar a COMA y muerte en unos meses. El síndrome de Marchiafava-Bignami se presenta con frecuencia en alcohólicos pero también se puede dar en individuos no alcohólicos.
