Scope note: Análisis químico basado en el hecho de que la intensidad de la luz, al pasar a través de un medio con partículas dispersas con un índice de refracción diferente al del medio, disminuye por dispersión. En la turbidimetría se mide la intensidad de la luz que se transmite a través del medio, la luz no dispersada. En la nefelometría, se mide la intensidad de la luz dispersada, general aunque no necesariamente, en los ángulos rectos del haz de luz incidente.

Scope note: Chemical analysis based on the phenomenon whereby light, passing through a medium with dispersed particles of a different refractive index from that of the medium, is attenuated in intensity by scattering. In turbidimetry, the intensity of light transmitted through the medium, the unscattered light, is measured. In nephelometry, the intensity of the scattered light is measured, usually, but not necessarily, at right angles to the incident light beam.
