Scope note: Cisteína proteasa similar a la papaína con especificidad para los dipéptidos del extremo amino. La enzima interviene en la activación de diversas serina proteasas proinflamatorias eliminando los dipéptidos inhibidores de su amino terminal. Las mutaciones genéticas que producen carencia de catepsina C se asocian a la ENFERMEDAD DE PAPILLON-LEFEVRE.
