Scope note: Enzima de la clase transferasa que cataliza la condensación del grupo succinilo de la succinil-coenzima A con glicina para formar delta-aminolevulinato. Es una proteína piridoxal-fosfato y la reacción se produce en la mitocondria como primer paso de la vía biosintética del hem. La enzima es clave en la regulación de la biosíntesis del hemo. En la retroelimentación hepática es inhibida por el hemo. EC 2.3.1.37.
