Scope note: Estimulante respiratorio que actúa como agonista de los quimioreceptores periféricos localizados en los cuerpos carotídeos. Esta sustancia incrementa la tension de oxígeno arterial y disminuye la del anhídrido carbónico arterial en pacientes con enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica. También se ha revelado útil en el tratamiento de la desaturiacion de oxígeno nocturna, sin afectar a la calidad del sueño.
