Como ejemplos de alimentos funcionales tenemos la SOJA, los frutos secos, el chocolate y los arándanos (NCCAM Backgrounder, marzo 2004, p3). Por ejemplo la SOJA proporciona, además de PROTEÍNAS, también FITOESTRÓGENOS (isoflavonas), compuestos que reducen el COLESTEROL total mediante la disminución del COLESTEROL LDL.
