Scope note: Enzima del citocromo P450 mitocondrial que cataliza la 1-alfa-hidroxilación de la 25-hidroxivitamina D3 (también conocida como 25-hidroxicolecalciferol) en presencia de oxígeno molecular y de NADPH-FERRIHEMOPROTEÍNA REDUCTASA. Esta enzima, codificada por el gen CYP27B1, convierte la 25-hidroxivitamina D3 en 1-alfa,25-dihidroxivitamina D3, que es la forma activa de la VITAMINA D en la regulación del crecimiento óseo y del metabolismo del calcio. Esta enzima también actúa sobre la 25-hidroxivitamina D2 (ergocalciferol) de plantas.
