Scope note: Familia de proteínas celulares que median en la correcta ensamblaje o desmontaje de otros polipéptidos y que, en algunos casos, se conforman en estructuras oligoméricas, pero que no son componentes de esas estructuras finales. Se considera que las proteínas chaperonas ayudan a la autoformación de los polipéptidos, inhibiendo vías alternativas de conformación, que producen estructuras no funcionales. Algunos tipos de chaperonas moleculares son las nucleoplasminas, las CHAPERONINAS, las PROTEÍNAS HSP70 DE CHOQUE TÉRMICO y las PROTEÍNAS HSP90 DE CHOQUE TÉRMICO.
