Antagoniza la función de las PROTEÍNAS PROTO-ONCOGÉNICAS C-MDM2 (que regulan la PROTEÍNA P53 SUPRESORA DE TUMOR convirtiéndola en objetivo para la degradación). La P14ARF procede del transcrito beta del ARNm del gen p16. El otro producto génico, producido por corte y empalme alternativo es el transcrito alfa que produce el INHIBIDOR P16 DE LA CINASA DEPENDIENTE DE CICLINA. Ambos productos del gen p16 tienen funciones supresoras de tumor.

It antagonizes the function of MDM2 PROTEIN (which regulates P53 TUMOR SUPPRESSOR PROTEIN by targeting it for degradation). p14ARF is produced from the beta mRNA transcript of the p16 gene. The other gene product, produced from the alternatively spliced alpha transcript, is CYCLIN-DEPENDENT KINASE INHIBITOR P16. Both p16 gene products have tumor suppressor functions.
